I Own Some Records

Loincloth - “Iron Balls Of Steel” (Southern Lord 2012)

So I bet this record fell under the radar for a lot of people when it came out early this year.  Loincloth are an instrumental metal band made up of former members of prog metal band Confessor.  Seriously not the most hype worthy record that Southern Lord put out this year, but I must say it’s pretty interesting.  

This kind of stuff isn’t my style usually.  I hate really wanky kind of stuff, but these guys are really wanky and talented, but don’t come off as so.  Like I don’t know, Dysrhythmia, who are like musical masturbation personified.  Loincloth are more like A Life Once Lost or Meshuggah sans vocals with shorter songs.  Like the kind of metal that takes a lot of talent to play it, but doesn’t sound like the members all had no friends growing up because all they did was practice their instruments, but still has catchy riffs that aren’t exhausting to follow.  

Great record.
