Living Laser - “Versus Pigs” (Trip Machine Labs 2012)
Any record that starts with a sample from the Twilight Zone will get an automatic good start from me. Its just a matter of the band not sucking to get a good review from then on. Thankfully Living Laser does not suck, therefore they get a good review.
Hailing from Poughkeepsie, NY, the town that nurtured me into the music loving nerd that I am, Living Laser automatically get points in my book. I went to the record release show for this 7 inch on Friday and it was one of the best shows I’ve been to all year. It was a a place called the Loft, a venue that normally hosts shows for semi-big touring national acts, but rather then play on the stage, all the bands played on the floor, and it was mayhem. I loved it.
I’ll be honest, the first time I heard Living Laser, I wasn’t to into them. They were opening for Municipal Waste, so any opening band on that show wouldn’t have held my interest. But damn, they are a band that grows on you. Basically combine riffs of NYHC like the Cro-Mags and catchiness of melodic hardcore bands like Ignite, and you should have a pretty good idea of what Living Laser sounds like. Their singer is totally unique sounding. Kind of wailing, kind of yelling, they must be heard, because I can’t really make a comparison to any vocalists.
A great record. You should pick this up if you know what’s good for you.

Iron Reagan - “Demo 2012”
Man what a great tape to get me back on the reviewing…horse…or something. Iron Reagan is a side project of dudes from Municipal Waste (and Cannabis Corpse) and Darkest Hour. Land Phil play guitar on here and I’m assuming has taking the helm of writing riffs and he is really great. Let’s not beat around the bush here, this sounds like Municipal Waste; Tony is on vocals. Well it sounds like Municipal Waste with more moshy mosh parts, and not as fast. Actually this really sounds like late 80’s early 90’s crossover/NYHC (Noo Yok Hawd Coah) like Crumbsuckers, Ludichrist, or Leeway.
This is a fucking awesome tape and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s like two times better than the new Municipal Waste album and 10 times better than anything Darkest Hour has done in the last 10 years. Go buy one now.
