Skitliv - “Bloodletting” (Cold Spring Records 2010)
I don’t get why this record is just advertised as Skitliv; it has both Skitliv on it and Current 93.  If anything it’s a split between the two bands.  Whatever, I’m just trying to be consistant to the rest of the world that says this is just Skitliv [EDIT: the Cold Spring website says the first track is an intro by David Tibet of Current 93; still stupid because it’s listed as Current 93 in the linear notes. Whatever].
Skitliv is a doom metal band fronted by original Mayhem vocalist Maniac.  I don’t know what I was expecting from this band when I first heard them, because I always though Maniac was a little lame (as a person, not musically), but fuck this record is great.  It’s not just doom metal, there is a lot of elements from noise and industrial music peppered all over this picture disc.  The first Skitliv track has sheets of noise skree crashing in and out between the riffs.  Kind of like the Porn + Merzbow collaboration record with Maniacs sick vocals.  The second side is a slow burning jam, more like a funeral dirge than a doom metal track but is the abrasive funeral dirge ever.
Cool little record, even if it is a picture disc.
