Torche - “Pow Wow” (Decibel Flexi Series 2012)
In honor of me getting to see Torche tomorrow, I’m reviewing Torche!
So this is a flexi disc that came with last months Decibel magazine.  Yes I ripped it out and listened to it, so its no longer a mint condition collectors item. Nuts to that, I’m in it for the tunes!
Decibel is like most other metal magazines, they talk about bands and labels that I don’t really care about, or used to care about, and treat bands like Pantera as immortal rock gods.  Though they do cover some more off the radar metal stuff that I obviously dig, and reading magazines will sometimes expose me to cool stuff.  In their credit as far as metal magazines go they are probably the least douche chill inducing.  Also this series of flexi discs that have been coming with their magazines (mail order only!) is pretty sweet, and features some sweet bands (Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Krallice, Municipal Waste, Autopsy, Wormrot, Torche and more).
I haven’t heard any new Torche stuff since Meanderthal came out, and this 7” is kinda getting me pumped for tomorrow.  They really have continued their tradition of thick guitar tones and interesting melodic vocals.  They aren’t as sludgy sounding on this record but still they are heavy as fuck even when writing upbeat songs.
A word on flexis, I hate them.  They sound like crap, and if the internet has taught me anything is that you can’t listen to them that much before you destroy the grooves.  Lame.  Buh-bye.
